My fiance is of the Wu family in Taiwan. Her family migrated to Taiwan from Fujian China (thus she speaks Min Nan in addition to Mandarin) prior to Chiang Kai Shek. I want to research her father's ancestry, however she was only able to fill in names up to her great grandparents on that side, and does not know how to proceed. She knows nothing of genealogy, and I know nothing of Chinese genealogical research and how it is done, nor can I read or speak any Chinese languages. She of course is tri-lingual. She will move here in September 2000 and we get married in November. How can I find out about her family name history, and how does one research genealogy in this culture? In America I know the libraries to go to to find vital statistics and so forth, but in Taiwan I have no idea. I wonder if there are Chinese genealogists located there we can hire? If someone can point me in some directions that would be very helpful!
