Dear all,

I am doing some research on Oliver Goldsmith THE CITIZEN OF THE WORLD. There is a fictional Chinese gentleman named "Lien Chi Altangi".
Would any one who knows the origin of this name or have some hints to it , pls send a message to this board?
Is it a real surname in chinese or a popular English name for Chinese around 1750-1800?
