My guess, is that your ggf's name of Ah On Ko is not his full personal name but only a part of it. The "Ah" is just a common add-on. As for the "Ko", it could mean "older brother" in Cantonese. That leaves "On" which was probably his personal name. Without seeing the Chinese character, one guess is probably "peace". So you do not have a surname or a complete name.
: My greatgrandfather's name was Ah On Ko and his wife's name was Lau Ah See (wife was living in China in 1942).
