I am a third generation (at least) with surname Fok born in Hong
Kong, though I have been living in Canada since I
was 17. My dad told me our ancesters were from
Panyu, but they were actually from Northern China
long long time ago (possibly ShanDong, or East
of Mountain). That's why we are bigger
than average in body size, and thus better adapted
to cold weather than the Southern Chinese (hence
I am in Canada now). Our family has a
tradition of highly respecting education,
irrespective of what returns you get out of it
(perhaps via numerous generations, it has become
a firm belief that education surpasses investment
of all purposes, possibly due to Confucian influences
and actual observations).
I would be a little surprised if
Fok's family can be traced back to
Han's dynasty thousands of years ago. I don't think
there are too many people with surnames Fok
(except Germans), please correct me if I am wrong.
