Traditionally, it is taboo to marry someone w/the same last name. Of course tradition has also been broken many many time. If you're from different areas I would assume that the relationship is distant enough not to matter.
You might check www.chineseroots.com to see if Teo is Zhang. It's a Singapore site so has a lot of the Hokkien, Teochew spellings as well as Mandarin, Cantonese etc.
