Last week we went to the National Archives and Records Administration at Waltham, MA to review the Chinese Case files for my husband's Moy relatives who immigrated from Mee Lung Village, Toi Shan to Worcester, Malden, and Boston, MA and Washington, DC.

Does anyone know of a conversion table for Chinese lunar dates to the solar calendar used in the US? We found the abbreviations "KS" for Kwong Suey and "CR" for Chinese Republic which we interpret as approximately 1874 and 1911, respectively. We're not sure how to relate the lunar months and days to corresponding solar months and days.

BTW, whatever index the INS had to the case files is missing for the approximately 15,000 files relating to Boston area Chinese immigrants via Vancouver, Montreal, and entry point of Richford, VT. In order to review the files, you need a case number. In many instances, w/in a file there was a handwritten sheet cross referencing other family members.

We are interested in finding more information about a commercial laundry owned by George T. Casebolt in Belleville, NJ beginning in 1870. There were approximately 50 Chinese employed there, including some Moy relatives between 1877-1889.
