I am doing some research on the Death Valley region in the 1890's-1920 on some phase of mining in DV. I have come across a paper, actually several of them, where the Chinese names all start with "Ah", such as Ah Foo, Ah Dam, Ah Joe, etc. I note on this message site that Ah is a common name attachment. In the case of these Chinese miners, etc., did the Chinese gentlemen add Ah to their names, or did the Anglos do that? I note that in northern NV in early mining days, that AH was also common in front of almost every Chinese name. Would that be an equivalent to our Mr.? Like I said, did the Anglos add this on to just about every Chinese on their radar screens? Thanks for any name help you can give me.
