To pick up gold in the Gold Mountain, return home and live like a king for the rest of their days. Of course picking up gold usually involved the more mundane laundryman, coolie, salmon fisherman, indentured servant, railroad builder etc. but still enough people came over to support a lot of the population of Sei Yap. With the Communist take over no one went home to retire.
