: : Hi I am trying to trace my heritage my grandfather's name was Benjamin Yap he lived in Hawaii. He died in 1948 married Ruth had 3 children -Titus, Cynthia, and Judy. If any one can help me please do so
: : Thanks.

: Yap is a Hokkien variation of the surname Ye(Mandarin) and Yip (Cantonese). If you have a Chinese viewer (ex. NJWIN CKJ), you can view how it is written: 葉. This character means "leaf."

: Since it is a Hokkien surname, it means that your ancestor came from southern Fujian province. He might problably came from the port city of Xiamen (also known as Amoy.)

: D. Yap

Karla, I think I had an aunt who lived in Hawaii some time in the past 20 years. Her name was either Joyce or Shirley Yap - who I'm also trying to find. My ancestors came from a village in China called Loong Boy Liang. Do you think we could be related somewhere along the line. Would love to hear from you. From K.Yap.
