Tracing Chinese Ancestors Hoon/Yuk/Few?

Can someone tell me the best way to trace my husbands ancestors in China. What chinese recources are available?
I am trying to trace my husbands G/Grandfather
William Ah Hoon (originally Ah Hoon)from Canton China, who migrated to Victoria, Australia and worked in the Gold fields near Avoca.
His parents were Ah Yuk(occupation Fishmonger) Canton, and Sing Yuk(nee Few or Lew not sure on spelling)
Any help would be appreciated
