interesting question. my ancestors are chiu chow but we've been living in hk area for 3 generations. my greatgrandparents spoke chiu chow but it wasn't passed down to future generations. so we speak some countryside cantonese dialect. some chiu chow also learn to speak hakka because they live in new territories with hakka people.
