My wife's grandfather, Charles Yee, was born in China (we think) and emigrated from China to the US, where he changed his name to his Jewish employer's surname "Fine". The US had had it's quota of Chinese immigrants, so he could not get a visa, so he went to Canada. Canada also was not accepting people from China (a quota thing at the time). Therefore, he went to Newfoundland sometime between 1920 and 1940 (although now part of Canada, at the time Newfoundland was a sovereign country). Does anyone have or know of someone who would have a record of someone with the "Yee" or "Yi" surname emmigrating to Newfoundland. Charles' had a brother in Boston who, after Charles died, offerred to adopt Charles' son John (Jack) from Newfoundland.
