: My GGrandfather was Wong Kee and on his marriage certificate in New Zealand 1896 he gave Wong Kee Lee as his father's name and Mary Wong as his mother's name.

: His birthplace ws given only as Canton and he was a medical man.

: Family history has it that once he arrived in New Zealand he was unable to practice medicine as his credentials were not recognised in the western world so he practiced herbal medicine. It is said he died days before getting permission to finally practice.

: What I would like to find out is, is there anywhere in China that one could find out if medical men were registered in any way in Canton in the 1800's. Also have a query as to what surname would have been ggrandfathers as have conflicting information some say Wong other's say Kee and yet others say Lee which is what GGrandather changed too legally in NZ after the birth of his first child my granfather who was registered as Willie Wong Lee.
: Any help would be most appreciated.

My grandfather's name is Mark, but his father's name was Mark Sang. Appearantly they changed their last name to Mark sometime we don't know and I'm doing some geneology research on my family. My granfather's family is from China that migrated to Hawaii. Please let me know if this sounds familiar to you. Email me to let me know. Mahalo.
