Can someone tell me the meaning of the surname Tong.
My husbands G/G/Grandfather was known by records in Australia as John Tong. This was later changed(or just written incorrectly) to Anthon/Anthong finally becoming Thomas Cook.
On the record I have it states John Tong,s father as William Tong.
Also from what area would the name Tong have come from.
on the record I have it is not really legible but appears to state from Awoy, China.
