You do not mention what dialect your parents spoke. Since you mention Baoan (which is located to the west in Shenzhen City) I suspect you may be Hakka as is the case for the majority of ethnic Chinese people in Sabah. To get to Baoan you cross the Hong Kong border and take a bus from the bus station. It is on the way to the airport and is not that far away. Although there are Cantonese people from Baoan, most are Hakka. Donguan is the city next to and north of Shenzhen City. If your ancestor's tombstone contains Chinese script, then it will provide you with useful information. That should be the first step in your search.

: Hi Lisa, Thanks for the response. I still need your help on tracing my family members - The LOKs all over the world. I'd gone to Guan Dong in 1990 but I'd no clue what so ever. Most of the people there couldn't speak English. Some talked Cantonese to me but I know only very few words. How to get to Bao An? How do you know that Lok means camel, not six, happy or land? Please tell me. I'm alien to my ancestor's language and custom. I don't really know whether or not the surname is written on the grave because I don't know how to read the chinese script. Help me again. Please, if possible inform other LOKs to write something to me at my email address. All messages must be in English. I'm Western Educated. B.A in Iowa, Masters in Malaysia. Thanks once again.
