Surname Sun (Mandarin) and Suen (Cantonese) are the same in Chinese. Dr. Sun Yat Sen was born in a place called Cuiheng Village which is not far from your Shak-Kee (Shiqi, now called Zhongshan City) in Zhongshan County. Was your cousin able to locate a copy of your family's genealogy records while in China? If so it may provide the link to Dr. Sun. I know of a Dr. Sun website which is mostly about his life history, but don't know if they will be able to help you. Here it is:

: was recored about his father or mother and their family history back in China.Many uncles on my grandfathers side have said we are linked to Dr Sun Yat Sen,sadly nothing was written down before they died.My cousin went to China to the Guangdong province where we knew our faimly were from.He was led to a village called Shak-Kee.However we need a link to where Sun Yat Sen's extended family's birthplace was to be able to get further with our search.If we had names of Sun Yat sen's uncles on his fathers side or even his fathers name it would be of great help.In Australia we have lots of information about what happened when my grandfather arrived in Australia from many Chinese groups.These groups can't tell us much about family trees leading back to China, this is why I am hoping that someone can give me some leads.We do however know that Sun and Suen are connected by the Generation Poem of the Moy Family of Guangdong, which started about the 11th generation.
