My Grandfathers surname was Poon A-Kit, which the Athorities changed to Akit. My father who emigrated to the US from Trinidad changed it back to Poon in the seventies.

: My mother is also from TT, surname Allum-Poon, from the original immigrant Poon (ah)Lum. Her family was originally known as Allum, since the British didn't understand the order in which Chinese names were given. At some time, the family choose to amend the name, but I guess at that point they thought they should retain the Allum, ergo the Br Guyanese variation of Chinese names with a hyphen.

: Do you know anything of Poon Affat and Ahong's other siblings, and when they came to TT?
