the origin of the surname looi is cantanese. it's a really wacky translation from cantanese to english. the mandrin version is pronouced very closely to Lee, but the canantese version is a very strong emphasise on the L making a Looi. so when preist translating our chinese names to english hear it they heard looi, thuse the Surname Looi was formed
