Quach is a Chinese name. My grandfather on my father's side came down from China and settled in Vietnam. As far as I know, the highest concentration of Quach's in Viet Nam is in the fishing town Rach Gia on the Gulf of Thailand.

There is a myth that Quach is a Mongolian warrior who took up an imperial position (king? emperor?) in China after conquering parts of it. I have no idea at what time in history this myth would refer to.

According to my father's family, Quach kept a book of middle names, spelling out the descendants of the next several dozen generations, descendants of his favorite Number One Wife (er, concubine). The first born son would look up the name for his generation in the book and name his own first born son accordingly. I believe the book is in its 26th generation, having been disrupted at least four times since the book's legend by the dislocation of the son who was supposed to continue the naming tradition.

There was a brief Vietnamese dynasty that carried the Quach name. That's all I know about this name.
