I've been searching for the best translation for my chinese surname which is Peng (Peng2 in Pinyin), the chinese dictionaries online only say that it is a surname, and a name of an ancient country. My father gave me a tranlation something like "force of a waterfall", but he was just giving me a rough translation of another word.
In the break down of the characters used in the word I have, earth+mouth+plant+water, my father said it signifies the birth of our ancestrial line, planting the seed for growth of our people I guess...so I just wanted to know if anyone could give me their best english tranlation of that name, thanks in advanced...

The 39th most common last name in China. Peng was named after a land. The ancient king Zhuan Xu had a great grandson called Wu Hui. Wu Hui? son was Lu Zhong, and Lu Zhong? third son was Jian. Jian was awarded the land of Da Ze (Xu Zhou in Jiang Su), and was known as Peng Jian. Peng Jian held a record of long life. According to the legend, Peng prepared a bowl of chicken soup for God. God was very pleased and gave him long life. Peng lived through Xia and Shang Dynasties for more than 800 years. He outlived 49 wives and 54 of his sons. He was known as Peng Zu, the forefather of the Peng family.
