Did your ggf die in Ballarat? If so, visit the New Ballarat Cemetery in the Chinese section where you should be able to find his grave and tombstone. All the miners who are buried there have Chinese written on their tombstones. Ask the people at the cemetery to assist you. The inscription will give you the name of his village.
