I am of the surname Ke/Kwa. According to the inscription on my great grandmother & great-greatfather's shared tombstone, our family came to West Java, Indonesia, from Nanjing Xian/Lam-ceng Koan (Nanjing County), Zhangzhou Fu/Ciang-ciu Hu (Zhangzhou Prefecture) in the Fujian Sheng /Hokkian Seng (Fujian Province) during the Qing/Cheng dynasty. I am the sixth generation in Indonesia now. I am still trying to find our place of origin.

Regards,
David Kwa

: I can't really say where exactly the Kuah surname originated in China but from what I've heard from many who share our surname is that the Kuah, Kua, Qua, Quah, Kwa, Kwah or Ke(1)surname is usually associated with the hardware trade and come mainly from the An Khwei and Nam An provinces of China. Interestingly enough, several of the Kuahs I've met are still in the hardware and ship chandling trade.
