For what it is worth, here is a possible explanation to your place name question. It seems possible that your romanization Ko Kong might be a variant spelling for Kook Kong /Kuk Kong. In the Taishan dialect there is a village called /Kookgong/ meaning "winding river". If you say it fast, the k and g tend to meld so that Ko[ok] Kong becomes your place name. If this is the case, refer to the Taishan data base. At Taishan, Area 2, Gongyi heung, Maixiang subheaung there is a concentration of Leung/Liang surname villages of which Qujiang or Kuk Kong appears. If this is your village, you might consider that Gongyi market area, after 1950 was redistributed between Daijiang zhen (market) of Taishan and the neighboring county of Xinhui. So your village may lay in another admistirative jurisdiction. Furthermore, most maps tend to only list larger admistrative units from the market town and up, thus making it difficult to find the exact location especially if you have little or no Chinese.
Note that many Overseas Chinese, especially those from Hong Kong tend to refer the Four or Five Districts that make up Siyi as Taishan. Therefore, it may be best to broaden your search area. For instance, according to the Xinhui County Gazette (1920 edition) there is a Gan Shi whose husband is a certain Liang hailing from Qujiang. It is, however, unclear as to if this is the same place as mentioned above or some place different. I suspect the later since the persons mentioned are from the North East of Xinhui. Hope this helps.
