Hi there,

I was born and raised in NZ, parents are from Samoa. If you are interested in learning about the Ah Mu geneology you need to contact Joyce Craig Gulliver. The original Ah Mu that came from China had many wives, with too many kids a piece for me to remember. But Joyce Craig Gulliver has done the geneology on her line. Ah Mu was her Great Grandfather. Joyce is my mother, therefore Ah Mu (no one knows his first name, the story behind that is interesting in itself) is my Great Great Grandfather. I know of how he left China originally and he along the course of his travels came across the Samoan islands and for some reason, loved it there. He pitched house and became one of the islands wealthy merchant owners. He also owned a lot of land. Some of which he donated to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and to this day, holds a temple, college, mission home, mission training centre and faculty homes still on this land.

My line comes from Vai Ah Mu who is one of Ah Mu's daughters from his second marriage. He married most of his daughters off to half casts with white (palagi) names. Therefore, we have Ah Mu girls married to Crichton, Craig and many other names. Craig is my mothers line. Her Great Grandfather (Ah Mu) married her grandmother off to a Scotsman from Aberdeen who more than not was jumping ship en route somewhere and ended up in the islands.

If you can find what wife your line of family comes from, and if I'm correct the old chinese man Ah Mu had five. If you can find or trace back to one of five of his wives... there are others in the family who can fill in the blanks, and who knows maybe you can fill in blanks for them of other descendants.

Hope this helps. Email back, and I will connect you to my mother. She is 73 and lives in NZ, but has a sharp memory and everything recorded on paper. She is not online, but I am and can either relay message or give you her address directly.

regards,
Penina Gulliver McMoore
