My uncle was a principal of Pui Ching in the 1940s. If you search on Wikipedia, you will find the history of the school. During the Japanese occupation the school moved to Macau and then after the communist government took over China, the Hong Kong schoolbecame better known.
Many overseas Chinese returning to Guangzhou sent their children to Pui Ching because it was, and still is, one of the most prestigious schools in the city.
I returned from China only last week and overheard some mothers talking about their children's education and wanting to send their kids to Pui Ching. The school is still there in Guangzhou in the Dongshan suburb. We visited the site when we were there in 2004.
In New Zealand, there used to be a Pui Ching past pupils alumni but I am not sure if it still exists. I know there are still some ex-pupils around in New Zealand. My father's family were all teachers who taught at the Pui Ching Middle school in Guangzhou.
You should go back and visit. It is very easy to get around Guangzhou now. They have a Metro system very similar to Hong Kong and Sydney systems and the underground station is just about 5 minutes walk from Pui ching school.
