According to my 80 year old uncle, his grandfather on his father's side, Reverend Reuben Toy (born in England, died in Dalston, Ontario, Canada) named each of his 10 children "Toy" and then, some time after the youngest (Muriel) was born in 1893, formally changed his family name to "Toye."

Apparently, Reuben was a "half brother" to the Grand family, of "Grand and Toy" which is a well-known stationers in Ontario, Canada (seller of office equipment and office supplies).

I wonder if any of this is of any interest or relevance to the others who have written in on this site.
