I am hoping someone may be able to help me expand my research on my great grandfather, Jung Gam (or Kim) Yui (in Cantonese) or Zhong Jin Rui (Mandarin) who emigrated from Canton or possibly Hong Kong around 1872 to Australia. He lists his birthplace as NAYON, China. I have isolated the region to Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi or possibly Hunan, based on surname distributions. He was closely associated with the AHOY or OHOY family, whose roots may have been TOI SHAN or TAI SHAN. In Australia, he went by the name of Charley Fun Chung. At one point he gave his place of birth as "Jang Sing", possibly Zengcheng in eastern Guangzhou.
I would like to know if anyone knows where this place he calls "Nayon" might be? Is it a county? Or a village in Zengcheng city? Or somewhere else, like maybe Nayong county in Guizhou? I have to assume it is a Cantonese pronunciation of some name.
Any help appreciated.
