Jennifer,

I believe your ancestral village of "masan" means "horse mountain" written as 马山 in Simplified Chinese, and I believe it is located in Administrative Unit #8 of Zhongshan which was formerly known as "Wong Leong Doo" prior to the 1911 founding of the Republic of China. "Wong Leong Doo" is located in the lower westerly part of Zhongshan, and almost directly west of Macau. I cannot find your village location on my map of Zhongshan which only shows major towns and villages of today. In order to find your village, you may need to consult a more detailed and older map of the area perhaps. As for identifying possible relatives of your family tree, after exhausting interviewing the elders of your immediate family, I would suggest that you contact a nearby Lam family association that often has records of the Lam family clan. I believe the name of your Lam family association is commonly listed as "Lam Sai Ho" or some Anglicized variation of the name. In Honolulu, it is called the "Lum Sai Ho Tong". In New York, it is the "Lum Sai Ho Association". Finally as a long shot, take a look at the weblink http://www.sfu.ca/davidlamcentre/hclmbc/images/Historical_Items/PaulLinPage1.html It has some
genealogical materials on the family of Paul Lin whose surname is the same as yours. With luck, perhaps it will even link you to your grandfather's Lam family branch, but admittedly it is a longshot.

Good luck in your search.

Raymond
