Notes for Carl Heinrich Andreas Mumme

Carl Heinrich Andreas Mumme was married three times. CatherineMagdalena Sohst was his first wife. Margarethe Adel Mohr was hissecond wife, and Marie Dorothea Johanna Jager was his third wife.

When Carl died in 1905, he was a very wealthy man and his will wascontested on February 5, 1907, by the five surviving children he hadwith Catherine, against the two underage daughters, Adele and Marthafrom his third marriage, who were 17 and 13 when he died. Thedocument stated that he and his first wife had no money, so possibly, the money came from his third wife, Marie.

His will left a total of at least 93,000 M, which in those days wouldhave been a considerable sum. Martha was to be given 4,000 M beforehis estate was divided, in view of her age, and the mother's bringingmoney into the marriage.

At the time the will was contested on February 5, 1907, one son,Freidrich Wilhelm had already died five months earlier at the age of32. Presumably, his first born son, Johannes had also died. His son,Claus Albert Andreas was living in Hamburg as a product handler, whichprobably translates to a retailer or warehouse person. Carl HinrichAndreas was living in New Zealand and working as a builder. Carl wasrepresented by his brother, Claus. The third son, Julius ChristianDetlef was a business manager in Hamburg, and his sister, MagadaleneJulie (Johanna) was married to Joseph Riedel from Altona.

The second daughter, Christine Maria Appolonia had been married to aHerstroeter and she was a widow by this time.
