Maria Willmann, a daughter of Anton and Theresa Willmann, was born in
Schlesian, Germany on March 18, 1848. She came to America with her parents
in 1853 and with them, settled near New Braunfels, Texas on the Willmann Ranch.
She attended the schools of the community with her brothers and sisters.
   There were not many social functions for the young folks in those pioneer
days, but such as were available were thoroughly enjoyed by them.  Most
of these social activities consisted of the young folks gathering at the
home of one of the neighbors.  Having grown to womanhood, she was married
on Dec. 8 1867 to Mr. Christian Ernst, who was born -----. This union was
not to endure for very long; for in July 1868, Christian died.  On Oct. 18,
1888, a daughter was born to Maria and she named her Christina Maria Ernst.
   On October 25, 1869, Maria married Carl T. Mumme.  They made their home
near Somerset, Texas where Carl engaged in farming and cattle raising.
