Jacob and Elizabeth Farmer

Jacob Farmer, son of Henry and Mary May Farmer, was born in Guilford, North Carolina in November 5, 1828.  He married Elizabeth Farmer (I haven’t yet figured out her parents but Farmer was her surname prior to her marriage), born about 1838 in Indiana, on November 22, 1855 in Morgan, Indiana.

The couple had three children:

Dayton, born October 1, 1856

Addie, born March 22, 1861 and died June 5, 1861

Anna, born February 14, 1863

Jacob and Elizabeth are found in the following federal census records:

1860 in Mooresville, Morgan, Indiana with Dayton

Jacob was in the 70th Indiana Volunteers, Company D, in the Civil War and died from complications of a gunshot wound received in the Battle of Resacca, Georgia.  The date of his death was June 9, 1864.  In his pension application, he is described as 5’5”, dark complexion, blue eyes, and black hair.  Jacob is buried in the Bethesda Cemetery in Morgan, Indiana with his daughter Addie.

Elizabeth remarried Simeon Low in July 11, 1866 in Morgan, Indiana.  Elizabeth and Simeon were in Christian County, Illinois in 1867, then in Morgan County, Indiana in 1870 with Dayton, Annie, and Simeon’s son Albert A.   There is an infant at the Bethesda Cemetery who died March 1, 1869 whose grave says “infant son of S. & E. Low”
