Family of Carl Victor/Viggo Marinus Christiansen, Denmark

Current Status

Vic’s son Carl, and daughter-in-law Riemke, are responsible for compiling this website, with much of the research being undertaken by Riemke.

Research has been conducted using the records of the Danish State Archives, Danish emigration records, and various other government organisations in Copenhagen, Odense and Svendborg, with limited success.  No Danish records have been found for a Carl Victor Christiansen (using various spelling combinations).

Trying to determine whether Viggo Marinus Christiansen may have been issued with a Danish passport around 1921-1922 has been unsuccessful.  However, as a result of archive searches, it is suspected that Viggo travelled to Australia as a crew member on the MS Asia, and not as a passenger.  It is possible that a Danish crew member did not require a passport for international travel, but used other identity documents valid at that time.

Research of the Danish State Archives conducted by Riemke and Carl, and also independent research conducted by Vera Viola Kristiansen's granddaughter, strongly suggested a second-cousin relationship between Carl and Vera Viola’s granddaughter.  This relationship has now been confirmed through DNA testing; they are second cousins.

Riemke and Carl visited Denmark in May 2012, spending time in Copenhagen, Odense, and Svendborg.  They were fortunate to meet Vera Viola’s welcoming granddaughter in Odense, and as well as discussing our various research tasks, she guided us around the city studying buildings relevant to our Christiansen families.
