- This is the one I was telling you about -
you can get to census images from here - just put in your BCPL library
card number
Cyndi's List of Genealogy
Sites on the Internet
- This is Cyndi's list - you can spend hours
here finding links. Many of the links below I found through her
page. She's got them really well organized as well.
Linkpendium
Homepage
This one is like Cyndi's list - just a
compendium of links. I haven't checked it out much.
- FamilySearch
Internet Genealogy Service
- This is the Mormon church. Some good
stuff here.
Rootsweb
A great place to start. And go down to Mailing
Lists and join a bunch. Start with ROOTS-L. I'm also
subscribed to every list that is a surname that I'm looking at as well
as many of the lists from Maryland.
A Family History Questionnaire
This is a questionnaire someone made up that
is a good guide for interviewing older relatives.
- City Directories - Baltimore, Maryland
- Lists locations of city directories for
Baltimore. I think the main home page of this one has lists for
all major cities.

Directory Project
- Transcription of the 1864 Balto city
directory
Genealogy
Blog
- Interesting stories, tips, etc. I
usually just scan through it. I've found a few good things, but
not much.
Shirley Hornbeck's This and That Genealogy Tips
- More tips, tricks - probably good for you to
read through as a beginner.
The
Inflation Calculator
- Interesting to see how much the $24,000 my
grandfather paid for his house in 1962 is worth in today's dollars
($138,000), especially since he wrote a check for the full price of the
house.
Special
Collections, Langsdale Library
I cannot remember what this one is. I'm
sure it's useful, since I bookmarked it :)

MD State archives
- Maryland State Archives Home Page
If you find that you have ancestors from MD,
this is a great site. Basically you can find out which microfilms
you need to look at before you go to the archives. It saves a
little time when you've got a head start like that. If you find
you want to go to the Archives, I'm coming down around Labor Day and
could go with you probably.
- Archives of Maryland Online
- This is stuff from the Archives that
they've actually scanned the original info in and posted it
online. So you can find some actual information here.
Archives
of Maryland Online city directories
- MARYLAND INDEXES (Death Record, BC, Index) Maryland
State Archives
- Funeral Home Records - Maryland State Archives
- BALTIMORE CITY ARCHIVES (City Papers, Index)
Maryland State Archives
The four above are some specific sites within the
Archives that I've used more than once, so I bookmarked them to make it
easier to get to.
genweb - the USGenWeb is a nationwide project made
up mostly of donated information. Some states/cities have lots of
info, some have very little. start at https://sites.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/,
which is the home page for USGenWeb. All the others below can be
gotten to from that page
- Baltimore County MDGenWeb Archives

Vital Records
- Anybirthday.com Birthdate Search Engine
Put your own name in and then wonder how they
got your info. OK, so not your name, but try Ray's (I tried it)
and mine.....
- Social Security Death
Index Interactive Search
- Check any relatives who have died since
about 1965 in this index. You can get their SSN, birthdate, death
date if their death was reported to the SSA.

the photo. Scary

I'm going to (one day) upload a website with my
family tree. I've started it, but it's taking a lot of
time. Maybe I should put it up online so you can see it if you
want, but not advertise that it's there yet.
