George UPHILL (1821-1875)
George was born about 1821 in
West Lydford, Somerset, England, the son of George and
Sarah Peddle (nee BARRETT). He arrived in South Australia in 1839
aboard the Prince Regent at the age of 19. He was a police
trooper in Mount Barker and later a farmer at Allendale East, south of
Mount Gambier.

James McKENNA (1821-1873)
James, my Great-Great Grandfather, was born
in 1822 in Howth, Co. Dublin, Ireland, where the McKenna family has
lived for at least 600 years. James and his older brother John emigrated to Western
Australia aboard the Ganges in 1841.
John McKENNA (1852-1933) My
Great Grandfather John was born in 1852 in Perth, Western Australia,
the son of James and Catherine Bridget (nee STANTON). He served with the WA
Police Force for 50 years, retiring as Chief Inspector in 1923.
Clarence Derby McKENNA
(1888-1975)
My
Grandfather Derby was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1888, the
son of John and Ellen Windsor (nee SMITH). This is a synopsis of his
life and includes a memoir of his
experiences during the first World War in Egypt, Gallipoli &
France, as a Driver with the 12th Field Ambulance (transcribed
from a 1974 audio recording).
John STANTON (Circa 1797-1877) My Great-Great-Great
Grandfather was born in Ireland and arrived in Western
Australia (then the Swan River Colony) as a Private with the
63rd Regiment of Foot in 1829 aboard the Sulphur.
He married (twice) in the colony and remained here until his
death in 1877.
