 Entrance St Uny Lelant, 2006

Cornwall

"For its parishioners [the parish church] was the centre of life in every province, solemn or gay, and the symbol of their hopes for eternity.  Here a child would be brought to its baptism a few hours after birth; here it would be taught the Creed and the Commandments by the parish clerk; and here it would first receive the benefits of the Sacrament.  Here a man was welcomed into matrimony in the porch, and nearby in the churchyard his body was lowered into the grave to the slow beat of the parish bell."

J. Charles Cox & Charles B. Ford, The Parish Churches of England, 2nd Edition, (London, B.T. Batsford), 1936
