Margaret Mooney 1834 - 1870

Margaret Mooney married Robert Whitmore in 1867, and together they had Robert and Eliza Whitmore born in 1870. Little is known about her as to date, she doesn't appear in any census (data incomplete?).

The Children

Although Margaret Mooney doesn't appear on the 1851/61 census, below are the registration of the births of her children, showing that she was resident in the district of Whitehaven since at least 1854.

Thomas Mooney b.1856		Charles Mooney b.1854		Martha Mooney b.1858		Mary Mooney b.1862

These children may indicate that she had been previously been married, although it was not uncommon for women of the time to have several illegitimate children.

The 1861 census shows at least 8 families called Mooney living in the St. Bees area, some of which were born in Lampugh. Those of Irish descent all come from County Down. Further examination of the census shows that several moved to Liverpool and Manchester. There are also recorded instances of Mooney family members in the Whitehaven area since at least 1794.
