The Chute Family: How They Met
How They Met
George Maynard Chute, III & Marjorie Anna Pino
Note M01
At the University of Michigan. One of Marjorie's friends in Stockwell Hall was Marion Price, who was dating and would later
marry George's younger brother Bob. Bob & Marion planned to drive Marjorie home for the holidays; she agreed to join them
at a concert before leaving Ann Arbor. Also attending the concert was Bob's older brother, George (with another young lady
as his date). However, he couldn't help but take notice of the unattached young woman who was attending the concert with
all of her textbooks and a slide rule, and he asked Bob who she was. Over the holidays, he called her for a date; she
agreed, and that, as they say, was that.

Note M9
"Winnie and Phil first met on the 4th of July, 1909 when the community gathered for a celebration in the Aladdin Valley
at the Deep Lake pavilion. Winnie was barely sixteen, wearing a red fluffy organdie dress and floppy sunbonnet hat with
red poppies made for her by Aunt-Belle in Easton. Phil asked her to go to dinner with him and she replied she'd ask her
mother first. Her mother sized him up and said that he looked like a gentleman to her. So she sat beside Phil at the
dinner table. Phil knew from his first glimpse that Winnie was the girl for him, but he politely called her "Miss Winifred"
and waited until she "came of age" to "declare his affections for her." On their first real date a group went by buckboard
to Lottie Jane Bowen's cabin across from Big Meadows west of Ione and square danced all night so they could have daylight
for the return home. Winnie's mother and father provided the music for many dances, mother playing the organ and father
the violin and coronet with good waltz music and peppy rhythms." Courtesy of Phyllis LaSota Ritter
