Notes on Paul Chute and Bethiah Azor Betts Chute:

,P.'born in 1782; married Bethiah, daughter of Dr. Azor and Gloriana Betts of St. John, N. B., Aug 5, 1804; and lived at the Joggins, Digby Co., N. S.; a farmer and tradesman. He was drowned crossing Annapolis Basin, going to Digby in a boat, February, 1810. His wife went to St. John, New Brunswick and married Edward Walker and had a daughter Margaret, who married Simon Bazley, and had three children. Mrs. walker died in 1846. He died in 1847. Dr. Betts died at Digby, N. S., Sept. 1809, aged 72. His wife died at St. John, Mar. 16, 1815, aged 68."

Bethia's ancestry is unconfirmed, but she may be the daughter of Azor Betts (Nathan, Samuel), born 13 SEP 1740 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, CT. He married Gloria Purdy, born ~1745 in White Plains, Westchester County, New York. Azor and Gloria had a daughter Sarah Betts, born ~1767.

Elizabeth, b. Apr 8, 1820; m. John Balsor Rice (deacon Jonas, Joseph, Beriah, Thomas, Thomas, Deacon Edmund), of Sudbury, Massachusetts, Dec., 1837, and lived at or near Smith's Cove. He d. 1852, aged 43. (Deacon Jonas Rice d. 1861, aged 79. His wife, Dorothy Balsor, d. 1861, aged 79). She m., 2nd, John, son of Silas Rice (his third wife); and he d. June 25, 1877, aged 91."

"John Balser Rice (Jonas, Ebenezer, Ebenezer); b. 1810; m. Elizabeth Chute, daughter of John Chute and Abigail Jones, December 1837 at Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia; d. 14 June 1852 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, Nova Scotia, at age 53, leaving a widow and five children; bur. at Smiths Cove Cemetery, Smiths Cove, Digby Co, Nova Scotia.

He resided after 1837 at Smiths Cove, Digby Co, Nova Scotia, where he was clerk of the Smith's Cove Baptist Church.

Known children of John Balser Rice and Elizabeth Chute were as follows:

Phebe Ann; b. 1842 at Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia; d. 1859 at Nova Scotia.

Dorothy, b. 1847 at Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia; m. John Mailing.

He appeared on the census of 1880 at Boston, Suffolk Co, MA.
John, b. 1852 at Bear River, Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia; m. Jessie Maria Chute.

John Rice was born circa 1786 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Silas Rice and Sarah Kniffen. John Rice was baptized on 6 March 1791 at St Lukes Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, Nova Scotia. John Rice married 1st Mary Hardy, daughter of Aaron Hardy Jr., and Eunice Gaskill; your author notes that Mary Hardy, daughter of Aaron Hardy, was mentioned as Marcy Wetherspoon in her father's will in 1809, probated April 1810. John Rice married 2nd Margaret Ann Balcom, widow of Joseph Potter, daughter of John Balcom and Ellen Gilmore, after 1829. John Rice married 3rd Elizabeth Chute, widow of John Balser Rice, daughter of John Chute and Abigail Jones, circa 1852 at Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. John Rice died in 1877. He and Mary Hardy resided circa 1810 at Hillsburgh, Digby Co, Nova Scotia.
