James Perry was also known as "J.P.", but is also sometimes recorded with his names reversed, i.e., "Perry James". He was originally a schoolteacher, but took over the running of the family farm in 1886. Fidelia Foster was identified in the Chute Genealogies as "Adelia Chute", but all census records record her as "Fidelia".

Annette E. ("Annie") Wilder Chute applied for a military widow's pension on 17 NOV 1905, under the "invalid" category and again on 30 JAN 1918 under the "widow" category. The pension application stated that George W. Chute had served in the Massachusetts Infantry, 53rd company, during the Civil War. His Extended Service Record reflects his active participation in numerous battles and angagements, but does not specifically state where and how he was wounded, or how he became an invalid.
