The opening of genealogical records on the Internet that now include Scandinavia has dramatically increased the number of records of Chutes from this area. Quite honestly, the suspicion is that some of these branches of the Chute Family may even pre-date the current Main Line of the Chute family dating back to Edward and Alexander. The working theory is that the Normandy branch of the Chutes actually originated in Flanders, where a large contingent of Danish Jutes had settled, and it is quite probable, although unconfirmed, that these Dutch Jutes/Chutes are connected with that earlier branch, from which our Edward is reported to have originated.
The names which seem to resonate throughout the Dutch Chutes are the names of Cornelius and Cornelia, the earliest example being Cornelius Chewt. The records below include a Cornelius and Cornelia in one family caught in an 1870 U.S. Census, and a record of a Gerritt Jansen and Maria Cornelia Chute Jansen, who traveled from Holland to the Dutch West Indies and then back to Amsterdam through LaGuardia Airfield in New York in 1948.
If the Scandinavian origins of our family are ever confirmed (beyond our strong theories), there is at least one branch of the Chutes which went full circle - from Scandinavia to (possibly) Flanders to Normandy to Great Britain to North America and ... back to Scandinavia again. That would be the Louis Ray Chute branch, which emigrated back to Scandinavia and is now on its second generation of Chutes.
