Robert Wann

Robert Wann was born 29 Aug. 1792 in Iredell, North Carolina. He was the son of William Wann Sr. and Ann McGowan. Robert Wann married Racheal Poe on 28 March 1813 in Wayne County Kentucky. Rachael was the daughter of Alexander Poe and Sarah (last name unknown) and was born 20 Sep. 1794 in Wayne County Kentucky. Robert and Racheal Wann had the following children:

For one month, June 1838-Jul. 1838, Robert Wann and his son, Samuel McGowan Wann, served as Privates in the company commanded by Capt. Joshua Wann (brother of Robert). This was the battalion commanded by Lt. Col. Norwood (what was known as the Florida War, but actually known as the Cherokee Indian Removal of 1838). Mustered in Bellefonte, AL and both were honorably discharged at Gunters Landing, AL.


Private Robert Wann served under Capt. Joshua Wann's Co. under Norwood's Battalion, Alabama Military for one month in 1838 for the Cherokee Removal of 1838.

He mustered in on 14 Jun. 1838 (with son Samuel Wann) in Bellefonte, Alabama. He mustered out at Gunters Landing, Alabama on 17 July 1838. He joined for duty on 13 June 1838, with son Samuel, for three months. He received $160 in pay upon mustering out one month later.

Rachel Wann filed a Bounty Land Claim on 4 May 1855. Rachel, 60 years old at the time, states she was the widow of Robert Wann and attests to service dates above and that he was honorably discharged.

Rachel also states that she and Robert married on 25 Mar. 1814 in Wayne Co., Kentucky by Nicholas Loyd, JP. Her maiden name was POE. Robert Wann died in Jackson Co., Arkansas, on 5 April 1850.

She obtained Bounty Land Warrant under Act. of Sep. 18, 1850, for 40 acres which she transferred.

This declaration was made for purpose of obtaining additional bounty land under Act of March 3, 1855.

Robert Wann died on 5 April 1850, Independence County Arkansas, and he is buried in Black River Township of Independence County. Racheal Poe Wann died 15 Feb. 1856 in Jackson County Arkansas.
