INJURIES FROM TWO-CAR COLLISION � John Tarr, 29, of 2713 S. Pasfield St., who was
injured about 10:40 p.m. Sunday in a two-car collision, died of head injuries at 8:40 a.m.
Monday at St. John�s Hospital. TARR DROVE his car north onto old Rochester Road and South
Grand Avenue from Groth Street, according to Coroner W. C. Telford, and the Tarr car and
a car driven by Harold Myers, 25, of Hammond, Ind., collided. Myers was ticketed for having
an improper driver�s license. An inquest into Tarr�s death will be held, according to Telford.
Nancy Farmer, 16, of 641 N. 4th St., a passenger in the Tarr car, remained a patient at St.
John�s Monday for treatment of injuries suffered in the collision. Another passenger, Mickey
Cronister, 18, of R.R. 7, was released after treatment. MYERS WAS treated at Memorial
Hospital and his passenger, Thomas Grant, 24, of 1201 � E. Laurel St., was treated at St.
John�s and released. MR. TARR IS survived by his widow, Peggy; two sons, john William Jr.
and Randall Eugene; two daughters, Pamela Sue and Dera Lynn, all of Springfield; his mother,
Mrs. Cecilia Tarr, of Springfield; three brothers, George Tarr of Texas and Elmer and Charles
Tarr, both of Springfield; and one sister, Mrs. Edith Randall of Germany. Vancil Funeral
Mansion is in charge of arrangements.�

�City Report: Driver, 29, Dies of Crash Injuries: John W. Tarr, 29, of 2713 S. Pasfield St. died at 8:40 a.m.
today at St. John�s Hospital of head injuries he suffered in a two-car collision about 10:40 p.m.
Sunday, at Old Rochester Road and South Grand Avenue. Coroner W. C. Telford said Tarr was
driver of a car that pulled out in front of another. Four other persons, two of them in Tarr�s car,
also were injured. The fatality was the 15th in Sangamon County this year. Treated at St. John�s
Hospital were Tarr�s passengers, Nancy Farmer, 16, of 641 N. 4th St. and Mickey Cronister, 18,
of R.R. 7. The other driver, Harold Myers, 25, of Hammond, Ind., was treated at Memorial Hospital
for mouth injuries. He was charged by Sangamon County Deputy Sheriffs Ed Miller and Seth
Falconer with carrying an improper driver�s license. Myer�s passenger, Thomas Grant, 24, of
1201 � E. Laurel St., was treated at St. John�s Hospital for head injuries. Telford said the Tarr car,
headed north on Groth Street, pulled out in front of the Myers car, headed east on Rochester Road.
Mr. Tarr is survived by his wife, Peggy; two sons, John William Jr. and Randall Eugene; two daughters,
Pamela Sue and Dera Lynn, all of Springfield; mother, Mrs. Cecilla Tarr of Springfield; three brothers,
George Tarr of Texas, Elmer and Charles Tarr, both of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Edith Randall

2:06 p.m. Monday at Memorial Medical Center. She was born Aug. 31, 1905, in Hochide, Germany,
the daughter of John and Mary Kunz Poetcher. Preceding her in death was her husband, Charles Tarr in
1959, and four sons. Mrs. Tarr was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving are a daughter, Edith
Alwardt of Springfield; a son, George of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Obit of John Tarr: �John Tarr sr., of 1116 N. Amos Ave., a retired coal miner, died at 12:40
p.m. yesterday in Memorial hospital. He was 80 years old. Mr. Tarr was born in Devonshire, England,
and came to this U.S. in 1892. He first resided for about one year in Petersburg and then moved to
Springfield where he since resided. His wife, the former Bertha Baker, died about 15 years ago.
Mr. Tarr was employed for a number of years at the old Franz slaughter house west of town before
he became a coal miner. He was employed for many years at mine 12 and was a member of the
Progressive Mine Workers of America. He is survived by seven sons, Edward J. and Carl H., both
of Pawnee; George W., William, John G., Fred W., and Elmer, all of Springfield; three daughters,
Mrs. Lilly Hawkins, Pontiac, Mich.; Mrs. Hilda Poetcher, Springfield; Mrs. Dorothy Roehl, Draden Plains,
Mich., 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Remains were taken to Ellinger and Kunz funeral
home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Lewis Niemoller will officiate and burial
will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today, until 9 p.m. tomorrow and until

Obit of John Poetcher: State Journal Register, 10-21-45, p1: �AGED MAN DIES IN FALL FROM
TRUCK: John Poetcher is victim of Accident: John Poetcher, 75, of 1129 North Amos avenue,
was killed, apparently instantly, at 5 p.m. yesterday, when he fell from a moving truck at Calhoun
and Amos avenues. Coroner W. E. Dragoo quoted Poetcher�s son-in-law, George Tarr, 220 North
Amos avenue, driver of the truck, as saying that the aged man was seated on a barrel at the rear
of the truck bed, and fell from the vehicle to the pavement on his head when the truck turned a
corner. Poetcher, a retired coal miner, was taken to Memorial hospital where he was pronounced
dead. Mr. Poetcher was born Dec. 5, 1869, in Austria, and had been a resident of Springfield
since 1909. He married Marie Kenney, June 13, 1903. Surviving are his wife, Marie; a son, Frank,
and three daughters, Mrs. Edith Ragland, Mrs. Cecelia Tarr, and Mrs. Dorothy Conklin, all of
Springfield, and eight grandchildren. Remains were removed to the Vancil funeral home. Funeral
arrangements are incomplete.�

1928. He was formerly employed by Sangamon Construction. Surviving are his wife, Hilda; two daughters,
Mrs. Loren (Doris) Anderson of Dawson and Mrs. George (Cheryl) Prehoda of Petersburg; several
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Cecelia Tarr of Springfield; several nieces and
nephews. Remains were cremated. Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.�
