  This Indenture made the 25th Day of August in the year One thousand seven hundred and seventy three between George Major of the County of Amelia of the one part & John Reason Jur. of the said County of the other Part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty five Pounds Current Money to the said George in hand paid by the said John Reason at or before the sealing and Delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof he Doth hereby acknowledge he the said George Major have granted Bargained sold aliened and Confirm'd and by these Presents do grant Bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said John Reason Jur. his heirs & assigns One Certain Tract or Parcel of Land Containing by Estimation Ninety Six Acres Lying and being in the County of Amelia being the Land that Barsheba Major Conveyed to William Major and by the said William Major Conveyed to the said George Major and Lies adjoining the Land of William Hurt School Master Richd. Jones John Hill & James Bardin with all woods waters Houses Orchards Profits commodities hereditiments & appurtinances thereunto belonging or in any wise appurtaining and all the Estate Right Title and Intrest of him the said George Major of and to the same To have & to hold all and singular the appurtenances unto the said John Reason Jur. his heirs and assigns to the Only proper use and Behoof of the said John Reason Jur. his heirs and assigns for ver and the said George Major for himself and his heirs Doth Covenant and grant to and with the said John Reason Jur his heirs and assigns for that he the said George Major and his heirs the said Land and Premisses with the appurtenances unto the said John Reason his heirs and assigns [too dark to read] Demand of all & every Person or Persons Whatsoever and will forever Defend by these Presents In Witness [to dark to read] Parties to these presents have here unto set their hands and Seal the Day and year above Written

At a Court held for Amelia County the 27th Day of August 1773
This Indenture and the Receipt thereon endorsed was acknowledged by the within named George Major Party thereto and Ordered to be Recorded Elizabeth his wife Personally appeared in court and having been first Privily examined Voluntarily Relinquished her Right of Dower in the Lands and Premisses conveyed by the said Indenture.

[Note: Amelia County, VA, Deed Book 11, 1769-1772, pp. 117-118 records that George MAJOR purchased the land he conveyed in the above deed from William MAJOR on 24 May 1770.]
