This Indenture
made this twenty Eight day of February One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty
two between Thomas Ligon and Tabitha his wife of the County of Amelia of
the one part and Phillip Major of the same County of the other part Witnesseth
that the Said Thomas Ligon and Tabitha his wife for and in Consideration
of the Sum of Thirty thousand Pounds to him in paid by the Said Phillip
Major the receipt whereof they Doth hereby Acknowledge hath Granted bargained
and Sold and by these presence doth Grant bargain and sell unto the said
Phillip Major one Certain tract or parcel of land Situate lying and being
in the County of Amelia on the branches of Sandy Creek Containing one hundred
acres be the same more or less which is bounded as followeth, To Wit, Beginning
at a Corner Scrub white oak formerly the property of Abraham Dassan but
now the property of Josiah Jacksons and from thence a North West course
to Turours Corner pine from thence to James McGlassons Faced Corner thence
to Isham Johnsons Corner litewood knott and thence along his line to the
Said Josiah Jacksons and thence along his line to the Beginning To have
and to hold the said Granted land and premisses with all the Appurtenances
thereunto Belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said Phillip Major
his Heirs and assigns forever and they the said Thomas Ligon and Tabitha
his Wife doth by these presence warrant and forever defend the said Granted
Land and premises with all the appurtenances to the Land belonging from
them the Said Thomas Ligon and Tabitha his Wife their heirs and assigns
and from all other persons Whatsoever unto the Said Phillip Major his heirs
and assigns forever In Witness whereof they the said Thomas Ligon and Tabitha
his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their Seals the Day and
Year above Written
At a Court held for Amelia County February 28th 1782 This Deed was acknowledged by the within Named Thomas Ligon and Tabitha his wife parties thereto and ordered to be Recorded, the said Tabitha having been first privily examined as the Law directs
