This Indenture
made this first day of January in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven
Hundred and Eighty Between James Brown of Botetourt County of the one Part
and Adam Clement of Bedford County
of the other Part Witnesseth that the sd. James Brown hath for and in Consideration
of the sumof Two Thousand Three Hundred and Seventy one Pound Ten Shillings
Currt. Money of Virginia to him in hand paid the Receipt whereof he Doth
hereby acknowledge Given granted Bargained Sold Enfeoff'd and by these Presents
Confirmd unto the sd. Adam Clement
one Certain Tract or Parcel of Land Containing Two Hundred and Seventy Nine
Acres, being part of Eleven Hundred and Sixteen acres of Land left by John
Johnson Dec.d to the Children of James Brown of Hanover County in Bedford
County being on the head waters of Beaver Creek and Bounded as followeth
Viz Beginning on the main New London Road on the old Line thence along the
old Line S 6. E 120. Poles to Corner Pine being also the
said Clements Corner thence along his line N. 88. E. 380 Poles to his
Corner Pointers thence along the old line N. 54 Poles to Pointers on Kyltons
Line thence along Keyltons Lines S 68. W. 20 Poles to his Corner Pointers
N 31 W. 142 Poles Crossing the said Road to Pointers on the Hillside Just
over a Small Branch thence the Dividing Line S 58. W 90. Poles to Pointers
on the main New London Road aforesaid and up the said Road as it meanders
to the first Station being Inclusive of John Thompson Browns part of the
said Eleven Hundred and Sixteen acres which he the said James Brown is empowered
to Convey Together with all woods ways Waters Profits Easments and Commodities
Hereditaments or appurtenances to the same Belonging or in any wise appertaining
To have and to Hold the sd. Tract of Land with all the Priviledges thereunto
Belonging To the only Proper use and Behoof of him the sd. Adam
Clement his Heirs and Assigns forever and farther the sd. James Brown
Doth Warrant and defend from all Persons Laying any Claim the sd. Land and
Premises unto the sd. Adam Clement
his Heirs and Assigns forever in Confirmation whereof the sd. James Brown
hath set his hand and affixed his Seal the day and year above Written
Memorandum that on the Day & Year within Written Livery of Seisen was given by the within named James Brown to the within named Adam Clement quietly Peacebly to Posses the within Lands & Premises according to this Indenture
Recd. of Adam Clement Two Thousand Three Hundred & Seventy one Pounds Ten Shillings Curr. Money the Consideration for the within granted Land
At a Court held for Bedford County February 28th 1780 This Indenture together with the Memorandum of Livery of Seisen and receipt thereon Indorsed were Proved by the Oaths of Richard Stith and John Forbes And at a Court held for said County the Twenty second Day of May following the same were further Proved by the Oath of Samuel Hairston and Ordered to be Recorded
