This Deed made this 1st day
of December 1862 between Nancy Clement of the first part and John L. Hurt
of the second part all of Pittsylvania County. Witnesseth, That the said
Nancy Clement being old and infirm and in consequence thereof unable to
attend to the management of her Negroes & other Estate and in consideration
of the undertaking of the said Hurt herein after mentioned hath granted
unto the said John L. Hurt her entire landed Estate in said County being
the same on which she resides also all the Negroes now held by her including
the increase the Land & Negroes being held by the said Nancy Clement for
life also every other species of Property owned by the said Nancy Clement
in fee simple And the said John L. Hurt doth covenant & agree with the
said Nancy Clement for the consideration foresaid to furnish the said
Nancy Clement at his own house with sufficient board clothing & washing
suitable for a person of her age & condition in Life also to furnish the
said Nancy Clement with sufficient pocket money for her ordinary purposes
& to treat her kindly & affectionately also to pay all the debts owing
by the said Nancy Clement including Taxes And the said Nancy Clement doth
covenant with the said John L. Hurt to warrant to the said Hurt her entire
interest to the said Land & Negroes during her life & also to warrant
an absolute title to the other Estate hereby conveyed. As witness the

I John W. Mottig a Justice of the Peace for the said County do hereby
certify that Nancy Clement & John L. Hurt parties to the foregoing writing
bearing date 1st day Decem 1862 have acknowledged the same before me in
my County aforesaid

Sct The foregoing Deed and certificate were returned and admitted to record
