This Indenture
made this first Day of August in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand
Seven Hundred and Seventy one Between James
Clements and Martha his wife of the county of Bedford of the one part
and James Mitchell of the County of Pittsylvania of the other part Witnesseth
that the said James Clements and
Martha his wife for and in Consideration of the Sum of Sixty pounds Current
Money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said James Mitchell the receipt
whereof they do hereby acknowledge Have bargained Granted Sold aliened Released
and Confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain Sell alien release
and Confirm unto the said James Mitchell his heirs and assigns forever one
Certain Tract or parcel of Land Containing one Hundred and thirty Six acres
Lyng and being in Pittsylvania County on both sides of Potters Creek and
Bounded as followeth To Witt Beginning at pointers in Beardings line thence
along his line South Seventy Six Degrees East thirty six poles to a white
oak north twelve degrees East forty eight Poles Crossing the Creek to a
red oak thence New lines North Eighty degrees east nine Poles to a white
oak thence South twenty five and a half degrees east one Hunderd and eight
poles to a white oak thence South Sixty Seven degrees east two hundred poles
Crossing the Creek to a white oak North thirty two degrees West forty eight
Poles to a pine thence north thirteen degrees east thirty six poles Crossing
two Branches to the Beginning with all Houses Orchards Gradens Meadows Pasture
fencing woods underwoods Ways waters and Watercourses Together with all
the estate Right Title Interest Possession Property Claim and Demand whatsoever
of him the said James Clement and
Martha his wife of in and to the Said Land and premisses or any part or
parcel thereof and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders
of all and Singular the before mentioned Land and premises with their and
every of their appurtenances To have and to hold the said Land and premisses
with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said James Mitchell
his heirs Executors adm.rs or assigns forever free and Clear from all former
or other Deeds Gifts Grants Bargais Sales Demand Right of Dowers or any
other Incumbrance whatsoever and further the said James
Clement and Martha his wife do for themselves their Heirs & c. Covenant
Promise and agree to and with the said James Mitchell his Heirs & c.
that the Right and Title of the said Land and premisses with their and every
of their appurtenances against all Persons whatsoever will warrant and Defend
unto the James Mitchell his heirs and assigns forever and Lastly the said
James Clement and Martha his wife
do Promise and agree to and with the said James Mitchell his heirs &
c. that they shall and will be Ready at all times hereafter to make any
further Deed or Deeds Conveyance or conveyances in the Law for the better
Securing the Right and Title of the said Land and Premises unto the said
James Mitchell his heirs and assigns or he the said James Mitchellhis Heirs
or Assigns Shall reasonably devise or Require In Witness Whereof the said
James Clement and Martha his wife
have hereunto set their hands and Seals the Day and Year first within Written

Memorandum That Quiet and Peacable Possession of the within mentioned Land
and premisses was had and Taken by the within named James
Clement and Martha his wife and by them Delivered unto the within Named
James Mitchell according to the true Intent and meaning of the within written
Deed

Received of James Mitchell the full and Just Sum of Sixty Pounds Currency
in full of all Demand for the within mentioned Land & premises I say
Rec.d
At a Court held for Pittsylvania County on the 29th Day of Augt. 1771
This Indenture together with the Memo. of Livery and Siezen and Receipt
hereon indorsed was Acknowledged by the within named James
Clement to be his Acts and Deed and Martha wife of the sd. James
being privily Examined as the law directs Relinquishes her right of Dower
in and to the within Granted Land and Premises and the same was Ordered
to be Recorded By the Court
