  The Common Wealth of Virginia to Thomas Dillard and David Hunt Gent or any two Justices of the County of Pittsylvania greeting Whereas Stephen Clements by his certain Indenture of Feoffment hath conveyed unto Pleasant Thurman of the County of Pittsylvania the fee Simple Estate of and in a Certain Tract or parcel of Land Lying and being in the County aforesaid Containing by Estimation Three hundred Acres be the same More or less and whereas Sarah the wife of the said Stephen Clement cannot conveniently Travell to & from our County Court of Pittsylvania Know ye that we trusting to your faithfull and provident Circumspection in Examining Sarah the wife of the said Stephen Clement from and apart from her said Husband whether she does freely and Voluntarily without the Persuasion or threats of her said Husband Relinquish her right of dower in and to the said Land & premises conveyed by her said Husband & when you have it done that you Certify and Return the same under your hands & Seals to our Justices of our said County Court of Pittsylvania Sending to the same Justices this Writ Witness Witness William Tunstall Clerk of our said Court at the Courthouse the 20th Day of Novem. in the 6th year of our Independance

By Virtue of the above Commission to us Directed we have Examined the Wife of Stephen Clement apart from her said Husband touching her relinquishment of her Dower in & to three hundred Acres of Land Conveyed by her said husband to the above named Pleasent Thurman we do hereby Certifie that the said Sarah apart from her said Husband did freely and Voluntarily without the Persuasion or threats of her said Husband relinquish her right of dower to the above granted Land & premises given under our hands and seals this 15th Day of April 1782
