The Commonwealth
of Virginia to Isaac Coles, Vincent Shelton and Crispen Shelton Gentlemen
Justices of Pittsylva. County Greeting Whereas Vachel
Clement by his certain Indenture of Bargain and
Sale bearing date the 16th day of Decemr. 1799 hath conveyed unto David
Pannill One hundred and twenty Acres of Land mor or less situate lying and
being in the said county of Pittsylvania and Whereas Lucretia Wife of the
sd. Vachel cannot conveniently
travel to our Court of our said County of Pittsylvania to make acknowledgment
of the said Conveyance, therefore we do give unto you or any two or more
of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Lucretia shall
be willing to make before you of the said Conveyance aforesaid contained
in the said Indenture which is hereto annexed,
and we do therefore Command you that you do personaly to to the said Lucretia
receive her acknowledgment of the same and examine her privily and apart
from the said Vachel her Husband
whether she doth the same freely and Voluntarily without his persuasions
or threats and whether she be willing that the same should be recorded in
our said County Court of Pittsylva. And when you shall have received her
Acknowledgment and examined her as aforesaid that you distinctly and openly
Certify us thereof in our said Court under your Seals Sending then there
the said Indenture and this Writ Witness William
Tunstall Clerk of our said County Court at the Courthouse the 29th day of
Jany 1800 in the 24th year of the Commonwealth Will Tunstall CPC Pittsylva. JP We Isaac Coles and Vincent Shelton two of the Justices mentioned in the within Commission have gone to Lucretia Clements wife to Vachel Clements and have privily examined her privately and apart from her Husband touching the relinquishment of her Dower in and to One hundred and twenty Acres of Land conveyed by the said Vachel Clement to David Pannill by the deed hereto annexed bearing date 16th December 1799 and do hereby Certify that the said Lucretia did freely and voluntarily acknowledge her right of Dower in and to the said One hundred and twenty acres of Land and is willing that the same shall be recorded in the said County of Pittsylvania Given under our hands and Seals this 27th day of September 1800
