  This Indenture made the 16th day of February in the Year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine Between William Owen of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and Abraham Legrand of the County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Owen for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred pounds Current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Abraham Legrand the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath Granted, bargained and Sold and by these presents doth Grant, bargain and sell unto the said Abraham Legrand his heirs and Assigns for ever one certain tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Pittsylvania containing One hundred Acres, more or less, and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at a Beech in John Owen decd line on the side of a Branch thence up the East fork of the said branch as it meanders to a mark pine chop L four sides from thence a direct line to a post oak in John Owens line chop L four sides thence along the said John Owen's decd. line to a red Oak, thence along the said line to a black Gum, thence South twenty two degrees East twenty poles to a white Oak, thence South thirty seven degrees West forty eight poles to a red oak, thence South twenty degrees East eighty poles to the beginning, together with all Houses, Woods, underwoods, Orchards, Gardens, fences, Water & watercourses Ways, Profits, Commodities and all the appertenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining thereunto To have and to hold the aforesaid One hundred Acres of Land with the appertenances thereunto belonging unto the said Abram Legrand to him his heirs and assigns for ever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Abram Legrand his heirs and assigns for ever and the said William Owen for himself and his heirs the above mentioned Land and premises and every part and parcel thereof do Warrant and defend the said One hundred Acres of Land to be free and clear from all incumbrances whatsoever unto the said Abram Legrand to him & his Heirs for ever In Witness whereof the said William Owen hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his Seal the date within mentioned

At a Court held for Pittsylvania County the 16th day of February 1789
The within Indenture from William Owen to Abram Legrand was acknowledged by the said William to be his act and deed and Eddy his wife being privily Examined as the Law directs relinquished her right of dower in and to the within Granted land and Premises conveyed by her said Husband. All which were Ordered to be recorded
